Government
Each of the different countries in Africa have different types of government. One part of the African government, The African Union (AU), which is made up from several countries in Africa. The AU helps make the democracy in Africa better, and provides support for fair elections in countries in Africa. Another type of government thats found in southern Africa is the Republic of South Africa. This type of government is a constitutional democracy. It has an independant judiciary, as well as a government system that has three parts. These two parts work to help provide a system that uses ideas from both presidential systems and parliamentary systems to create a type of government that is different from most others. In this system, the president isn't elected by the citizens of the country, but by the Parliament. The elected president is then assigned a term in which they must serve. http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_Africa's_type_of_government http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Government_of_South_Africa
Many political problems remain in Africa, even after they became independant. One of the biggest political problems in Africa might be their leaders and how they handle their power. There have been many cases where some of their "freedon heroes" have turned themselves into powerful dictators. These dictators taking control while they are trying to deal with the lack of natural resources and deprivation has resulted in major issues. If there weren't prople trying to take control and become dictators, Africa would be able to focus more on trying to improve their lack of natural recources and depravity. Africans that live ordinary lives and aren't ruling any part of the continent have been constantly trying to find ways to help resolve these issues. Even today, Most of the African countries still have these issues to deal with. http://www.diaspora-centre.org/DOCS/Political_Instabil.pdf

Political Leaders and Elections
Some countries in Africa are ruled by presidents that are elected by parliament. Other countries are ruled by kings. Africa also has different prime ministers and governor-generals. Each country has a different king or president. Presidents are elected by a lower part of Parliament called National Assembly. After the president is elected, they remain in office for a term lasting between five and ten years. The candidate that leads the party with the most members is elected to become president. Presidents in Africa are allowed to run for a maximum of two terms. Once the five to ten year term is up for a president, Parliament elects a new one, or the same on for a second term if they decide to run again. Kings in Africa are not chosen. The only way to become a king is to be an heir to the throne.
